Summer Days

We have quite a solid routine these days. Since Stew’s been working with me for our rental business, it’s been nice tag-teaming between work and play. Stew spends his days on Dewees, while Turner and I hold down the fort at home.

We start our day at the gym, run some errands, then head home to have lunch and the occasional smoothie date. Then it’s pretty much hanging out at home while mommy makes phone calls and works on the computer. He’s gotten quite good at entertaining himself while I work. I feel like it’s all he’s known since I’ve worked from home since he was born.

Then it’s the beloved nap time. He naps from about 1:30-4 give or take. That’s my time to hunker down with an iced coffee and relax or get more work done.

Stew usually gets home shortly after his nap and it’s full on game time! The second he walks in the door, Turner harasses him, “Pway Dwums!” “Baseball” “Chase You” “Pway Catch”.

And then there’s Stew’s genius invention where he turned our wagon into a portable sandbox. Turner pulls his sandbox out of the garage and then we can put it back when he’s done! That way it doesn’t get rained on or filled with bugs.

I’m really enjoying this summer. Turner is so much fun and quite hilarious. All he wants to do is play. I just wish I had enough energy to be the one running around with him! Soon, we’ll have another little munchkin adding to the fun! Can’t even wait.

Saturday In The Park

We’ve had such a great day today! Sometimes Stew is off on Fridays, but not this week! So we packed as much as we could into our day! The weather was amazing. It started out a little too chilly for my liking, but quickly warmed up to 79 degrees. That I can handle!

We had our breakfast and then hit the Farmer’s Market first thing! I thought we’d beat the rush, but it was PACKED! We grabbed our produce and a bag of freshly popped kettle corn and parked it in Marion Square.

After that, we headed home for nap time. During Turner’s nap, I ran to my office to catch up on some paperwork! I got home just in time for Turner to wake up. We had a quick bite and hit the pool! I must say, it was the best pool outing I’ve had in a while. Stew played with Turner while I sunbathed! I can’t even remember the last time I did that!

We lasted a little over an hour at the pool. Then we went home to change for dinner. We headed to one of our favorite spots on Sullivan’s Island, Taco Mamacita. My mom and stepdad met us there, and we shared nachos and had margaritas.

It was the perfect ending to a perfect day! Can’t wait to wake up and do it all again. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Traffic Light Ice Pops

Turner is a huge smoothie fan. We share a smoothie every day! When I make them, I ALWAYS throw some spinach and avocado in. He honestly loves it and has no clue. Gotta do it while I can, right?

I wanted to make something a little different since I had some more time over the weekend! I looked to see what sort of frozen or fresh fruit I had on hand and BOOM, traffic light ice pops! I got the idea from one of my favorite kid’s cookbooks, SuperFoods for Babies and Children. I get a TON of ideas from this book, and Turner has loved everything. I can’t say I’ve followed the recipes to a T, but they’ve definitely inspired my menus! The ice pops recipe called for strawberries, honey, peaches, and kiwi. I  didn’t have most of those things, so instead I used a mixture of frozen strawberries and raspberries, fresh pineapple, and fresh kiwi. They came out AWESOME! The perfect treat for a hot summer day.

Summer Fun

It’s FINALLY hot here! It’s been warm, just not HOT. The past few days have been in the upper 80s and sunny, which is exactly how I like it. Any day is made better with a dose of sunshine!

Sunday, after church, we went home for a nap and then hit the beach for the afternoon. It was absolutely beautiful! It was nice and warm, but there was just enough of a breeze, so it wasn’t too hot.

Turner is OBSESSED with the ocean! The second we put our stuff down, he made a beeline! We would let him play for a few minutes, carry him back to our blanket, and he would walk back to the ocean. This happened over and over. It’s amazing what entertains a toddler.

We were finally able to distract him for a little bit and play catch. Then he crawled around and found shells to pick up and throw. He always wants to move onto the next activity. He keeps me on my toes, that’s for sure!

I miss the beach days where I would pop Turner in the carrier and just plop him on my blanket and he wasn’t able to move. He is quite busy at the beach these days!

Now that our pool is open, we’re able to take a quick walk and spend some time there. It’s MUCH easier than the beach. Last year, I put Turner in his float and we would just hang out in the big pool. This year is a whole new world! He was able to go in the kiddy pool and loved it! Of course, that means I have to go in the kiddy pool. Luckily, no one else was there, so I didn’t feel like I was soaking in a urinal.

I am SO excited for summer with this munchkin. He is getting to be more fun (and busy) by the day. There are definitely days that I wish I could just take a nap or go to the beach and not have to worry about anyone but myself. But, this morning, I read something that said “you will never be this loved again. So on the days you’re feeling touched out, stressed out, and depleted, remember that you’ll never be this loved again.” I am so thankful to have Turner with me every second of every day!

Strawberry Picking

We had the best weekend. It was 80 degrees and sunny all weekend! What could be bad on a day like that!? We packed so much family goodness into one weekend!

We started our Saturday, bright and early, at the Farmer’s Market.

This is one of our favorite things to do every Saturday. This was the first one of the season, so it was extra exciting. There are a ton of tents with local farmers, jewelers, restaurants, etc. They set up their tents surrounding Marion Square (a big park), and people just shop and eat! After we walked through, and got our produce for the week, we practiced Turner’s walking skills in the park.

Once Turner started pooping out, we headed home for lunch and a nap break. THEN, we hit the Strawberry Festival. Stewart and I LOVE going strawberry picking. We’ve done it every year for the past 8 years! This year had to be the most exciting yet!

Turner adores strawberries. He has even started saying it, “Dobee”. I can’t even explain Turner’s urgency to get his lips on those little jewels once we showed up! He was instantly attracted to the little red berries sticking out of the leaves.

It seemed like he was eating more strawberries than were in our buckets! He was covered in strawberry juice by the end of it! Thank goodness for Oxi-Clean!

We went home to pop the strawberries in the fridge, and decided to hit the beach, since we were already covered in dirt and strawberry juice!

I was glad to learn that Turner no longer wanted to EAT the sand, he just wanted to throw it. Which, honestly, was fine by me! I’ll take that over him gagging on mouth-fulls of sand!

What a great weekend. I was sad to see it go! Although, it is just the beginning of our favorite summer things! I am SO excited to experience summer with Turner as a toddler! Happy Monday, everyone!

Pool Party

Our neighborhood has a great pool, which is a major bonus. I have always loved going to our pool, but this year, I’m even MORE excited because Turner is here! I ordered him a baby float, and yesterday was the PERFECT day to break it in. We slathered on some sunscreen, rocked our festive Memorial Day bathing suits, and hit the pool!IMG_1513
He wasn’t too sure about the pool at first. It was a little chilly for little baby legs. But, once he was in, he started to have fun. He loved his float! This thing is the cadillac of baby floats. It has chew toys, shaker toys, floaty toys, and an inflatable octopus to bash! The canopy on top was perfect to block the sun. His favorite part was chewing on the rubber fishy!IMG_1481
He let us know when he had enough. He lasted about 1/2 an hour, which is longer than I thought he would! So, we whisked him out of the pool, stripped him down, and wrapped him up in a towel to dry off in the sun. There’s nothing better than a nakey baby!!IMG_1499
Once he was warm, he was all smiles!
We had so much fun at the pool! It was our first of many pool parties! Turner obviously had fun too. When we got home, we sat him in his swing, and he was OUT COLD! It’s hard work playing in the sun!IMG_1516

Beach Baby

The weather finally cooperated this weekend, and we were able to go to the beach. I had to work for a bit on Saturday morning, but in the afternoon it was BEACH ON! We packed up our beach caddy, pop up tent, PLENTY of wipes (learned that the hard way), and Baby and hit the road! I LOVE living 5 minutes away from the beach. We are so lucky!
Stew and Turner sat in the tent, while Mommy sunbathed for a bit. It was so relaxing! 5
It’s been a WHILE since I’ve been able to sit out in the sun. Last year, while I was pregnant, I was so hot all the time! I could barely step foot outside! This year, I’m excited to soak up the sun and heat again!

We had so much fun playing with Turner and his toys! Turner was having a blast scooting around in the tent and finding the sandy spots!4
After playing for a bit, we took a walk to the ocean to feel the water. It actually wasn’t too cold! I dipped Turner’s feet in the water. He wasn’t sure what to think. I have a feeling he’ll be a beach bum before we know it!
We had such a great time at the beach. Turner’s such a good sport. We cart him everywhere. He’s just happy to be hanging out with us! We’ll take it while we can get it 😮
