In case any of you missed the news, Charleston was recently hit with what I like to call a Snowpocalypse. Now, I grew up in New Jersey where snow was a common occurrence. But Charleston is just not equipped for it. I was a little snotty about it at first. The city literally shut down for three days. But then I realized that I too was one of those people not leaving my house for fear of skidding off the ice-coated roads. After all, it’s been at least 14 years since I’ve experienced several inches of snow, and I completely forgot how to function! The truth is, Charleston can handle hurricanes, but we don’t do snow. Our houses and buildings are built to withstand hundred mile an hour winds, whereas the north is equipped with everything needed to prepare for a blizzard. It seems that we’ve mixed up our natural disasters! It sure was pretty though.
On the bright side, I took advantage of being snowed in to do a few of my favorite things: baking, cleaning, organizing, and food prepping! School lunches, you don’t own me! Plus, I had an excuse to drink my body weight in coffee and stay in my PJs all day.
The kids were FREAKING out. Of course, we had no snow gear, so we had to resort to layering clothes and using socks for gloves. But, hey, we built a snowman nonetheless!
It’s kind of sad that tomorrow will be 60 degrees, and this is probably the last time we’ll see snow in Charleston in our lifetime. Well, actually, I’m not sad at all. Back to reality!
