Settling In With Gracie

It’s hard to believe that Gracie is finally here! She is the sweetest little baby! So soft and snuggly. I forgot how it felt to hold a newborn!

Turner has taken really well to her. I was so nervous about this. He and I have been like two peas in a pod the past 3 years. But he surprisingly has welcomed her with open arms! My mom’s been helping too, so he’s had plenty of attention.

Mornings are my favorite. We wake up (or have already been awake) and bring Turner into our bed. We all hang out and drink our coffee while Turner snuggles with Gracie. He’s so obsessed with her! He always looks at me and asks to touch her or kiss her. It’s the cutest thing ever!

I can’t wait to update you with more as we get to know our sweet little girl! And because this is amazing…here is a picture of Turner when he was 3 days old compared to Gracie at 3 days old! Can you see a resemblance?! Sending sleepy hugs and kisses your way!

Welcome Gracie Jane Watson!

I posted my 39 weeks blog post two days ago, which was actually 2 days early. I ended up going into labor that night! We went to bed as usual. I woke up around 10:30pm because I was super hot and wanted to turn on the ceiling fan. And, boom, my water broke!

That’s the same way it happened with Turner. But this time around, I was Strep-B positive (a bacteria that lives in the body that can be passed to baby) so I was told I would have to come in to get an antibiotic if my water broke first. Sure enough, I called the birth center and they said to come on in. I called my mom to come stay at our house with Turner and we hit the road!

Once we got there, they hooked me up to a monitor to listen to Gracie moving around and see how often my contractions were coming. They were about 10 minutes apart already. So they gave me a dose of antibiotics and told us we could get some sleep for a few hours.

Stew slept for a few hours while I just rested. I probably fell asleep for about an hour. Since I was laying down, my contractions started to slow down. So I got up around 3:30am to walk around and try to bring them on.

Stew woke up around 4:30am and helped me move around so we could pick up the pace. I walked around, rocked on the birthing ball, and took a shower (all the while listening to my hypnobabies tracks).

By around 7am my contractions were between 3 and 5 minutes apart but not coming at a consistent pace. Again, since I was StrepB Positive, I had to have her within 12 hours since my water broke first. So it was game on. My midwife, Erin, gave me some crazy herbal concoction that I had to drink every 15 minutes for an hour. Once I choked those down, my contractions were coming much more quickly!

By 9am they were pretty close and strong. So I got in the birth tub and it was time to push! There was a little hiccup at that point. The urge to push disappeared and my contractions started slowing down! My midwife made some adjustments in my positioning and I was ready to push again.

A few minutes later and Gracie was out! She was completely wrapped in her umbilical cord. She cried immediately and then stopped crying. I was so nervous! Erin quickly unwrapped her and she was good to go! Scariest minutes of our lives!

Gracie Jane Watson was born at 10:04am on September 24th. She weighs 7lbs 2 oz and is 20 inches long. She’s the most perfect little bundle. All of our prayers have been answered with her! Wish us luck in our transition to a family of four! I can’t wait to share updates!

39 Weeks Baby Bump

How far along? 39 Weeks.
Total weight gain/loss: about 35 pounds.
Maternity clothes? pretty much wearing the same SOFFEE shorts and maternity tank tops with my favorite flannel shirt :o)
Best moment this week: Going to the birth center for my (hopefully) last visit before Baby Girl comes.
Miss Anything? My sanity. Every day I’m planning like it’s “the day” so I’m trying to get so much done to prepare (laundry, work, cleaning, etc)!
How are you sleeping? Like a ROCK.
Movement: She’s more active at night. I feel her rolling around pretty much all the time though!
Food cravings: I’m loving comfort foods, cinnamon, apples, and pumpkin spice things.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Feeling decent these days. Coffee is still a turn off.
Gender: GIRL!!!
Labor Signs: I had some contractions the other night but they didn’t continue or get closer together so it was a false alarm.
Belly Button in or out? Out
Wedding rings on or off? On during the day, off at night.
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
What are you excited for? Meeting this baby!

“We Go Adbenture!”

The other day, we decided to come up with something fun for the three of us to do before Baby Girl makes her debut! I’ve always wanted to take Turner to one of the farms by our house. Johns Island has a lot of the produce and dairy farms that supply our local goodies! So, as we sat in bed drinking coffee, I looked up some different farms to try out. I got a list of 3 or 4 to visit. So, we ate breakfast and headed out! Johns Island is about 30 minutes from our house. So we told Turner that we were going on an adventure. He was so excited!

Top 5 worst parenting moments of my life. The first farm we got to was overgrown and completely empty. As we pulled into the lot, Turner started yelling “yaaaay get down get down!”. I quickly pulled up the next farm on my phone where there were supposedly goats. So we made the mistake of saying, “Turner, we’re going to see animals!!!”. We pulled out and quickly punched the next address into our GPS. Turner started chanting “WE GO ADBENTURE! WE GO ADBENTURE! WE GO ADBENTURE!” Well, you could probably guess, there were no goats anywhere to be seen. So, now we had to figure out where we could see these animals that we promised him!

Our next farm was the biggest produce farm we know of. I thought it would be perfect to distract him from our empty promise. Guess what, the farm is seasonal and was closed. Seriously!? Luckily, there was a lonely horse on the side of the road as we drove up the entrance. I yelled, “quick pull over!” So we jumped out of the car and walked up to the fence to see the horse. Stew and I were making the biggest deal, “Turner!!! Look at the horse!!!!”. That bought us a little more time.

Back in the car we went. “WE GO ADBENTURE! WE GO ADBENTURE! WE GO ADBENTURE!”. Per the advise of a nice young man we encountered at the porta-potty (did I mention I’m 9 months pregnant?!) we headed to a vineyard that had a petting zoo! SCORE! We would finally see the animals that we promised him.

We arrive to find a cage with some chickens and another cage with some bunny rabbits. Well, not the petting zoo I had in mind. But Turner was thrilled! So we went with it. Thank God for toddlers and simple pleasures.

So, it didn’t turn out to be the adventure we had hoped for. But, on the bright side, Turner was super excited that he got to see “Peter Wabbit”. Moral of the story…call before you pack a toddler up for a 3 hour car ride to no-where. “We Go Adbenture!”

38 Weeks Baby Bump

How far along? 38 Weeks.
Total weight gain/loss: about 35 pounds.
Maternity clothes? Yes. Counting the minutes until I don’t have to anymore!
Best moment this week: Went for my check up and Baby Girl is really low! We’re getting close. Also, we picked out my “push present” which I didn’t actually know was a thing until my friend told me. Soooo since I didn’t get one with Turner, do I get two??
Miss Anything? coffee and energy stand out the most.
How are you sleeping? Like a rock, except for the other night when I woke up at 2am to go to the bathroom and couldn’t fall back to sleep because I was convinced that if I willed myself enough, I could have the baby that night. It didn’t work.
Movement: Yes. She’s slowed down a bit. Her movements are less jabby and more rolling if that makes sense!
Food cravings: Food really isn’t that appetizing to me. I am looking forward to having a normal appetite again!
Anything making you queasy or sick: I’ve actually been a bit queasy the past few days. Nothing crazy but food isn’t that exciting to me.
Gender: GIRL!!!
Labor Signs: Just crampy feeling. It’s so weird that I could have her any day! It’s actually quite torturous, as I have a hard time keeping my mind busy.
Belly Button in or out? Out
Wedding rings on or off? On during the day, off at night.
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy, except the day after I was awake all night. I was quite exhausted and grumpy :o/
What are you excited for? Meeting our little girl!

Baby Prep

I’ve been doing little things over the past few weeks to prepare for Baby Girl’s arrival. I feel like being a few steps ahead now will allow me to relax and soak up newborn madness later!

Birth Center/Hospital Bag:
I packed this about a week ago to be sure I have the necessities. I go home from the birth center the same day, so I don’t need too much. But if you know you’re staying at a hospital for a night or two, you’ll want to add some more clothes! I can add a few last minute things when I actually go into labor. But for now, this is what I have:

  • chapstick
  • Shampoo/conditioner
  • Hair-tie, brush
  • Glasses/contacts
  • Nursing bra
  • Going home outfit
  • Slippers
  • Baby Girl’s outfit, hat, and scratch mittens
  • Baby Girl’s swaddle blanket
  • diffuser and lavender essential oil
  • Snacks and coconut water (power bar, cheese and crackers, fig newtons, ginger snap cookies)
  • Phones and chargers
  • Pillows

Meal Planning:
I always plan our meals for the week ahead so I only need to go grocery shopping once. Over the past few weeks, I’ve planned meals that I could easily double. I froze the second batch of each in a freezer bag with a label so I know what I need to do when I defrost it. I have at least two weeks of meals stocked up in the freezer! All I need to do is thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat or throw in the slow cooker for dinner. Here are some of the meals I made:

Bulk Buying:

We took a trip to Costco over the weekend and stocked up on lots of goodies! We bought enough toilet paper and paper towels to last a lifetime. We also loaded up on garbage bags, laundry detergent, dish soap, and paper plates cups and utensils. Anything that means less dishes to wash works for me! I feel like buying these things in bulk cuts down on the expense too! We picked up some chicken and steaks while we were there too. We are ready! Now all we need is Baby Girl!

37 Weeks Baby Bump

How far along? 37 Weeks. Full term!!!
Total weight gain/loss: about 34 pounds.
Maternity clothes? Barely. Even those are uncomfortable!
Best moment this week: I had my 37 week check up. I can’t even believe how close it is! This pregnancy has flown by.
Miss Anything? coffee, martinis, my regular clothes, rolling over easily, laying down without getting kicked in the ribs. Other than that….not much :o)
How are you sleeping? Baby Girl is awake at night and kicking relentlessly from about 10-12. Then once I fall asleep I don’t feel her. So I get a solid sleep!
Movement: She has her times. During the day she’s pretty quiet.
Food cravings: I definitely am loving comfort foods, cinnamon, apples, and pumpkin spice things. I am so excited that autumn is right around the corner!
Anything making you queasy or sick: I’ve been feeling pretty good!
Gender: GIRL!!!
Labor Signs: Lots of Braxton Hicks and overall crampy feeling.
Belly Button in or out? Out
Wedding rings on or off? On during the day, off at night.
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
What are you excited for? Baby girl’s arrival and cooler weather!

Baby Girl’s Nursery is Ready!

We have finally put all the finishing touches on Baby Girl’s nursery! I am so excited with the way it turned out. I had an idea in my mind that I didn’t want it to be too “girly”. I wanted more of a boho-chic feel. I actually bought a pouf ottoman cover on Etsy which was the inspiration for the rest of the room. HERE is the original post for my nursery inspiration!

I used the same crib we used for Turner’s nursery. I found the dresser at a local consignment shop. I loved the cream color with the gold handles! The wall art above the crib is from TJ Maxx. I got that before I even knew we were having a girl! I figured, I could use it in the nursery, and if not, I’d put it in my office!

I plan to keep her headbands in a glass jar so they’re easily accessible. Plus they look cute on display!

I spray painted this changing table with Valspar’s “La Fonda Mirage”, for a bit of pop! The baskets are from Target. I have them organized with diapers, wipes, burp cloths, ointments and lotions, and some changing table covers. The shelf above her changing table has tissues, cotton balls, Q tips, and hair clips :o)

And finally, a book shelf with her monogrammed initials above it (courtesy of my amazing friend Angela). We will definitely have to add some more books. It looks so sorry compared to Turner’s, which is jam packed and separated by genre! I had more time on my hands then ;o)

Now that the nursery is ready, all we need is our little bundle! Counting down the days until we meet our sweet little girl!

Baby Shower

Last weekend, one of my best friends, Angela, hosted a baby shower for me. I didn’t think I was going to have one, but she convinced me that, since I’m having a girl, I need one! I’m so glad I did. It was so fun celebrating our little girl!

She went completely out of her way to host this shower! Although we planned an intimate get together, it was one of the most beautiful I’d ever seen! She planned the decorations based on Baby Girl’s nursery… lots of pink and gold :o)

She had a drink bar with mimosas, sangria, tea, and infused water. YUM!

The food was to die for! My mom made the most gorgeous cake and the cookie favors were literally the best cookies I had ever sunk my teeth into!

I didn’t really register for gifts because everyone coming knew me so well and I trusted their judgement! Plus, I have all of the major things left over from Turner. So all I really needed was little girl clothes! And, oh my goodness, did I get little girl clothes! First of all, there was a headband station, so everyone was able to create a headband. And thanks to these girls, I have a lifetime of headbands!

It was truly a day of pampering. I loved spending the day with a bunch of ladies that I adore! I felt so loved and supported by everyone there.

This little girl is so loved before she’s even taken her first breath! I am so very thankful to be surrounded by these women!

36 Weeks Baby Bump

How far along? 36 Weeks.
Total weight gain/loss: about 33 pounds
Maternity clothes? Yes. But I much prefer lounge wear these days!
Best moment this week: I had the most amazing baby shower! I am so lucky to have such awesome friends and family. Baby Girl’s closet is packed with the most adorable clothes! Can’t wait to see them on her!
Miss Anything? coffee, throwing on any clothes and knowing they’ll fit, working out without feeling like a house.
How are you sleeping? Still sleeping like a rock.
Movement: She seems to be slowing down. I feel her subtle movements all the time rather than major jabs.
Food cravings: I’m liking all things pumpkin and cinnamon these days.
Anything making you queasy or sick: The worst seems to be over!
Gender: GIRL!!!
Labor Signs: Still just a lot of Braxton Hicks.
Belly Button in or out? I’m gonna go with out.
Wedding rings on or off? On during the day, off at night.
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
What are you excited for? Baby girl’s arrival!
