Our Anniversary Weekend

Stew and I celebrated six years of marriage this weekend! It’s hard to believe that we started dating almost 10 years ago! Since then, we got a cat and a dog, bought a house, changed jobs, had babies, beat cancer, and have grown tremendously in our faith, our relationship with each other, and as people. Let’s hope the next decade is a bit calmer!

We started dating when I was still in college at The College of Charleston. Needless to say, Charleston is our home and our favorite city on earth! So, why not spend our anniversary there!? So, we booked a weekend at 1837 Bed and Breakfast right in the heart of the city.

It was perfect! We had a relaxing afternoon drinking tea and eating cake during “tea time”. Then we walked around until it was time to get ready for dinner. It’s amazing what pregnancy does to the body. I normally love the heat. And walking around downtown is my favorite thing to do. But I was counting the minutes until we found a bench in the shade so I could make the return walk. Prego plus heat equals not a comfortable situation. We made it back to our B&B to get dolled up. We had reservations at High Cotton, which is always a treat!

The next morning, we slept in, drank coffee in bed, and meandered downstairs for a scrumptious breakfast on the porch. I can’t even remember the last time we had a morning like that. After breakfast, we dropped our stuff off at home and hit the beach. We lasted about 2 hours, which was mostly spent in the ocean, because it was painfully hot. We hit the grocery store for our weekly shopping and then headed home to get ready for Sunday Dinner at my mom’s to celebrate Father’s Day.

Meanwhile, Turner spent the weekend at Gigi and Paw-Paw’s house. He was thrilled. I don’t think he missed us for a second! My mom sent me some pictures, because I was definitely in withdrawal. It was comforting to see how much fun he was having. But we both missed him terribly!

It’s crazy how we started out just the two of us. And when I was pregnant with Turner, we couldn’t imagine sharing our time with another person! And now, it’s like the three of us are a little team. We have so much fun together that it’s hard to even remember a time when it was just the two of us. Spending alone time together was definitely wonderful and refreshing, but we so love our little family that we’re building!
