Memorial Day with my family was nothing short of amazing. My mom and Michael made a delicious meal, and everyone showed up hungry! Last year Turner was such a little baby! Now he’s a child-beast that eats everything in sight! So he was especially excited about the food.
It was pretty much like Sunday dinner, except Nanny and Pops were traveling, so they missed it! But we did have my brother and his girlfriend, and Stew’s brother, Luke, and his wife, Suzy. Turner is obsessed with Aunt Suzy. He squeals when he sees her and keeps saying her name (pronounced Sissy). I must admit, it’s pretty darn cute.
We even made a point to get a family picture, which are few and far between!
Overall, it was an amazing weekend. Lots of food and much needed family time! No better way to celebrate the loved ones we’ve lost than with the loved ones we still have with us! Happy Memorial Day to you!

Happy Memorial Day weekend! This holiday is one that gets more meaningful as I get older. I feel so blessed to live in such an amazing country. Without the men and women who make such sacrifices, we wouldn’t have the freedom we do! For them, I am thankful.
We have had a great start to this holiday weekend so far. Saturday morning we started our day as usual with coffee and milk in bed. Then we went downstairs for a festive breakfast of waffles with homemade strawberry jam and yogurt with berries.
Turner loved it so much that he wanted to do some finger painting with his yogurt. Him feeding himself is teaching me a lot about letting go!
After breakfast, we cleaned up and headed to World Market to find a new rug for the kitchen. We didn’t have any luck, but I’m obsessed with that store, so it was fun nonetheless. We came back home for lunch and a nap. After Turner woke up I made him a little snack. He had a strawberry and banana smoothie with some fresh fruit.
That afternoon, my mom and stepdad came over to babysit so Stew and I could go have a date. We started at our favorite little spot in Charleston, Kudu Coffee and Craft Beer. I’ve been going to this place since I was in college. Hands down best coffee and beer I’ve ever had! My pick was the Stone Smoked Porter with Chipotle Peppers and Stew picked the Stone Collective Distortion IPA. Delicious!
Then, Stew and I walked down the street to Monza which has the BEST brick oven pizza ever! And, of course, we ended the night with some ice cream. It was an awesome day! I’m so excited that I get two more days with my boys! Happy Memorial Day!
We’ve had such a great day today! Sometimes Stew is off on Fridays, but not this week! So we packed as much as we could into our day! The weather was amazing. It started out a little too chilly for my liking, but quickly warmed up to 79 degrees. That I can handle!
We had our breakfast and then hit the Farmer’s Market first thing! I thought we’d beat the rush, but it was PACKED! We grabbed our produce and a bag of freshly popped kettle corn and parked it in Marion Square.
After that, we headed home for nap time. During Turner’s nap, I ran to my office to catch up on some paperwork! I got home just in time for Turner to wake up. We had a quick bite and hit the pool! I must say, it was the best pool outing I’ve had in a while. Stew played with Turner while I sunbathed! I can’t even remember the last time I did that!
We lasted a little over an hour at the pool. Then we went home to change for dinner. We headed to one of our favorite spots on Sullivan’s Island, Taco Mamacita. My mom and stepdad met us there, and we shared nachos and had margaritas.
It was the perfect ending to a perfect day! Can’t wait to wake up and do it all again. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Turner is a huge smoothie fan. We share a smoothie every day! When I make them, I ALWAYS throw some spinach and avocado in. He honestly loves it and has no clue. Gotta do it while I can, right?
I wanted to make something a little different since I had some more time over the weekend! I looked to see what sort of frozen or fresh fruit I had on hand and BOOM, traffic light ice pops! I got the idea from one of my favorite kid’s cookbooks, SuperFoods for Babies and Children. I get a TON of ideas from this book, and Turner has loved everything. I can’t say I’ve followed the recipes to a T, but they’ve definitely inspired my menus! The ice pops recipe called for strawberries, honey, peaches, and kiwi. I didn’t have most of those things, so instead I used a mixture of frozen strawberries and raspberries, fresh pineapple, and fresh kiwi. They came out AWESOME! The perfect treat for a hot summer day.
What a nice weekend! Stew is always thoughtful and sweet, but this weekend was extra special! Turner was full of hugs and kisses too!
Saturday Stew sent me out of the house while he stayed home with Turner. I had such a peaceful time! I went shopping and then to Whole Foods. I’m sure it sounds weird that I went grocery shopping on my “day off”, but I adore grocery shopping. I could walk around Whole Foods for hours, which is exactly what I did!
I got home that afternoon, and Turner missed me so much! He wanted to be on my lap at all times. I felt so loved!
That night, we went to our friends’ house for dinner. It was a nice casual barbecue.
Sunday morning, Turner and Stew woke me up with coffee in bed and extra snuggles.
We had a slow morning, which is always fun. Then it was off to church! We came home and had some lunch and a nap before heading out again to meet up with my family for a late lunch.
At church, there was a thought in our bulletin from a blogger in the community. It said, “The 10 jobs listed as comprising a mother’s work were housekeeper, cook, day care center teacher, laundry machine operator, taxi driver, facilities manager, janitor, computer operator, chief executive officer and psychologist.” That being said, it’s the best job I’ve ever had, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world! Happy Mother’s Day!
I can’t believe this is my second Mother’s Day already! I remember when I found out I was pregnant. I couldn’t wait to become a mom! I feel so blessed to have Turner as my baby. I’ve never experienced love like this before!
We’ll definitely get together with the whole family on Sunday, but my mom likes to do an afternoon tea at her house with just us and my grandmother. It’s so special and thoughtful! So I packed up Turner and headed to Gigi’s this afternoon for our tea.
The food was delicious, and the company was even better. Being a mom is exhausting and rewarding all at the same time! I was once compared to someone competing in the strong man challenge. I didn’t disagree! It’s amazing being responsible for this little person and shaping his life. I am so thankful for him and every sweet little thing he does! There’s nothing quite like a love between a mother and her baby!
It’s FINALLY hot here! It’s been warm, just not HOT. The past few days have been in the upper 80s and sunny, which is exactly how I like it. Any day is made better with a dose of sunshine!
Sunday, after church, we went home for a nap and then hit the beach for the afternoon. It was absolutely beautiful! It was nice and warm, but there was just enough of a breeze, so it wasn’t too hot.
Turner is OBSESSED with the ocean! The second we put our stuff down, he made a beeline! We would let him play for a few minutes, carry him back to our blanket, and he would walk back to the ocean. This happened over and over. It’s amazing what entertains a toddler.
We were finally able to distract him for a little bit and play catch. Then he crawled around and found shells to pick up and throw. He always wants to move onto the next activity. He keeps me on my toes, that’s for sure!
I miss the beach days where I would pop Turner in the carrier and just plop him on my blanket and he wasn’t able to move. He is quite busy at the beach these days!
Now that our pool is open, we’re able to take a quick walk and spend some time there. It’s MUCH easier than the beach. Last year, I put Turner in his float and we would just hang out in the big pool. This year is a whole new world! He was able to go in the kiddy pool and loved it! Of course, that means I have to go in the kiddy pool. Luckily, no one else was there, so I didn’t feel like I was soaking in a urinal.
I am SO excited for summer with this munchkin. He is getting to be more fun (and busy) by the day. There are definitely days that I wish I could just take a nap or go to the beach and not have to worry about anyone but myself. But, this morning, I read something that said “you will never be this loved again. So on the days you’re feeling touched out, stressed out, and depleted, remember that you’ll never be this loved again.” I am so thankful to have Turner with me every second of every day!
Turner is getting SO BIG! I feel like he’s such a little man! People who haven’t seen him in a while are shocked by how much he’s grown! Now that he’s walking (finally), he really seems like a toddler!
Yesterday, we took him for his second big boy haircut. He definitely has my hair. It’s sort of like a mop that always looks the same, no matter what! We knew it was time for a trim, when he was getting a little mullet action. I love the shaggy look, but it was a little too shaggy. So, we took him to Ms. Yolanda, who he adores!
He sat in his little race car and ate apple sticks while Ms. Yolanda gave him a trim. He sat like a statue! It was so funny to watch.
This morning, we had our coffee in bed and snuggled for a while before starting the day. We were feeling lazy…
Then, as usual, we hit the farmer’s market to get some goodies! It turned out to be a beautiful morning, which is always exciting! We walked through the market and got our produce. Then we headed home for lunch and a nap.
So far, we’re having a great weekend, and it’s only just begun! I love being with Turner all week, but it’s also nice when Stew’s home to help out! That means we get family time, but I also get some time to myself, which is much needed! I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend too!
